Ooltewah Owls Varsity Falls in Back-And-Forth Affair Against Farragut
Ooltewah Owls Varsity and Farragut passed the lead back-and-forth on Saturday, but eventually Farragut prevailed 12-5. The game was tied at five with Farragut batting in the bottom of the sixth when Noland singled off of Jackson Malcolm, driving in one run.
Farragut took an early lead in the second inning. With one out in the second inning Grooms drove in one run when he singled.
After Ooltewah Owls Varsity scored one run in the top of the fifth, Farragut answered with one of their own. Ooltewah Owls Varsity scored when Jake Sullivan singled off of Tunstall, driving in one run. Farragut then answered when Freeman homered off of Austin Spurgeon, driving in one run.
Ooltewah Owls Varsity scored three runs in the third inning. The big inning was thanks to a single by Sullivan, a groundout by Andrew Manning, and a double by Ethan Walls.
Tunstall earned the win for Farragut. He went, allowing one run, two hits, and walking zero. Spurgeon took the loss for Ooltewah Owls Varsity. He tossed two and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs, two hits, and striking out one.
Grove started the game for Farragut. He went four innings, allowing three runs, four hits, striking out four, and walking one. Daniel Willie started the game for Ooltewah Owls Varsity. He threw two and a third innings, allowing two runs, five hits, striking out two, and walking one.
Ooltewah Owls Varsity had ten hits in the game. Sullivan and Andy Reed each collected multiple hits for Ooltewah Owls Varsity. Sullivan, Walls, Spurgeon, and Manning each drove in one run to lead Ooltewah Owls Varsity.
Farragut collected ten hits. Freeman, Noland, and Burkey each collected multiple hits for Farragut. Freeman led Farragut with three hits in four at bats.
